I wanted to try something different today so I’ve decided to respond to the Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s theme is Ornate, which immediately brought to mind Florence Cathedral, also known as Il Duomo di Firenze.

I took these photos on a glorious holiday to Florence in October last year.

The beautiful Duomo is a striking Gothic design, clad in green and pink marble. The crowning glory is Brunelleschi’s Renaissance dome, which towers over Florence.

The Cathedral’s interior decoration is rather austere in comparison to its ornate exterior, with the exception of Vasari’s breathtaking frescoes that adorn the dome’s interior.

My visit to Duomo was, like every moment of my trip to Florence, an uplifting and cherished experience. I hope to return someday. The sooner the better.
